Marathon III is Southland Sod’s most advanced dwarf tall fescue and represents the latest release in a fifteen-year progression of breeding development. Marathon III is more dense, darker green, finer leafed, and slower growing than previous generations. Marathon III can be mowed shorter, resulting in a more compact carpet-like appearance; its slower growth rate results in significantly lower clipping yield which, in turn, lowers disposal volume. Mowing frequency may also be reduced, particularly during cooler seasons. Marathon III contains Shortcut which is Southland’s proprietary variety developed through a cooperative research program.
